Despite the fact that they have a bad habit of bursting into flames, those little two-wheeled hoverboards can be a pretty cool gadget to mess around with. And if you’re afraid of falling—or just looking like an idiot—there’s a new modification on the market that turns a hoverboard into a sort of go-kart, and it’s actually kind of genius.
The patent-pending product, dubbed the HoverCart, is as simple as it looks. Take a beach chair, add some wheels on the back, put a frame underneath, and attach it to the center of the hoverboard for some foot-steered front-wheel drive. The HoverCart is for sale for a slightly expensive $70, but you could probably figure out how to DIY your own pretty easily.
Maybe the most surprising thing here is how peppy these little hoverboards can be. The HoverCart isn’t just a way to scoot around while sitting instead of standing up, but can actually be used to tow relatively lightweight cargo like surfboards, and inflatable boat, a cooler, whathaveyou. Besides that, hoverboards can actually go pretty fast with top speeds of around 15 mph. Too fast for standing, but if you’re sitting, maybe not!
The HoverCart probably isn’t a reason to go out and by a hoverboard right this second—especially considering the still-rampant quality control issues—but if you ever find yourself in possession of one, why not hook up a chair? Standing is for chumps anyway.
