Pacific Cycle, a bicycle company, is recalling two electric bicycle models due to improper assembly of the wiring harness for managing lithium-ion battery charging, which may lead to overheating and potential fire hazards.
There have been three reports of battery fires resulting in one person sustaining second-degree burns.
This recall involves the Ascend Cabrillo and Minaret electric bicycles, with approximately 1,700 Ascend Cabrillo and Minaret electric bicycles being recalled. The Ascend Cabrillo models are identified as R7583BPS and R7585BPS, while the Ascend Minaret model is identified as R7586BPS.
These electric bicycles were sold in various Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s stores and online from January to November 2023, with prices ranging from $1400 to $1500. Consumers are advised to return the electric bicycles to the Bass Pro Shop or Cabela’s store where they were purchased to receive a refund. Until the refund is received, it is strongly recommended that consumers stop using the bicycles and unplug them to ensure safety.
The Pacific Cycle model number is printed on a service label located above the seat tube on the center axis. The Ascend Cabrillo is available in two colors, sand or gray, and comes with a rear cargo rack. The Minaret is only available in black with red and gray accents, featuring a step-through frame style. The word “Ascend” is located on the down tube, while “Cabrillo” or “Minaret” is found on the rear seat stay.
